Alex Karaban is a modern stretch-four with a fantastic feel for the game. He is a smart team defender and rarely finds himself in uncomfortable positions on that end. While he is not much of an initiator on offense, he has good passing instincts and has been able to make plays for others out of the high-post. Karaban is a very good catch-and-shoot player with a high and quick release. He does not create looks for himself very often, but UConn was so loaded this year that I’m really just not sure that he needed to. I see him as being able to guard both big positions in the NBA and his versatility will cause problems when bigger fives have to account for him on the other end. I would still expect to see Karaban return for one more year of college, but if he stays in the draft, a team may surprise people with how high they select him.
